165 Children Receive Winter Coats in Richland Parish | Cool Kids Inc.

Keeping Children Warm & Learning

Cool Kids Inc. distributed 165 winter coats to children and families across Richland Parish, addressing a critical but often overlooked barrier to student success: access to warm, adequate clothing during the winter months.

In rural and low-income communities, many families are forced to make difficult choices between utilities, food, and basic necessities like winter apparel. For students, lacking a coat doesn’t just mean discomfort—it can lead to missed school days, health risks, and social stigma that impacts confidence and classroom engagement.

What Happened

In November, Cool Kids Inc., a Louisiana-based nonprofit serving youth and families, organized a community coat drive in Richland Parish. The initiative resulted in 165 winter coats distributed directly to children and families facing economic hardship.

Who Was Helped

Children attending local schools and families with limited access to winter clothing received coats sized appropriately for safety and comfort during colder months.

Why It Matters

Lack of proper winter clothing is linked to increased school absences and health risks. By removing this barrier, Cool Kids Inc. helped students remain present, engaged, and protected during the school year.
